COOPERATION BETWEEN UNILA AND UCLG ASPAC ON LOCALISING SDGs TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND STAKEHOLDER

United Cities and Local Government Asia Pasific (UCLG ASPAC) in collaboration with University of Lampung (Unila) Based on Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between these two parties, on the basis of this MoU, has identified areas for developing joint programmes in various fields of interest of the parties, including capacity development, training activities and national and international conferences in the context of localising Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Based on this MoU, the parties cooperate on but not limited to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

UCLG ASPAC is the key knowledge management hub on local government issues in the Asia-Pasific region. Moreover, this organization promotes democratic local government, supports cooperation between cities, local governments, their associations, facilities programmes, network, and partnership to develop the capacity of local government and the association. UCLG ASPAC is engaged in all relevent thematic fields for nurturing sustainable development comprising local economic development, climate change, disaster resiliency, culture, strategy planning decentralization, municipal finance, gender equality, women leadership, and empowerment, and good governance.

With the commitment to support local government implementing the 2030 SDGs agenda, UCLG ASPAC will continue to support the momentum of advocacy that has been fostered by LOCALISE SDGs. One of its continuous commitment was realised through facilitation of collaboration between the city of Bandar Lampung and SDGs Center of University of Lampung to formally express their willingness to collaborate further in the fields of capacity builds on monitoring and evaluation of SDGs at the local level.

With its project on LOCALISE SDGs, financially supported by the European Union and implemented by UCLG ASPAC in cooperation with Asosiasi Pemerintah Kota Seluruh Indonesia (APEKSI), aims to empower Local Authorities (Las) and Association of Local Authorities (ALAs) in Indonesia for enhanced governance and more effective development policies and to promote inclusive and sustainable local development through SDGs attaintment.

LOCALISE SDGs has received a No Cost Extension (NCE) approval from the donor for six months starting from January to June 2021. The NCE will focus on continuing the capacity building programme that has been postponed following the COVID-19 pandemic. The SDGs localisation capacity building is important for the LAs to maintain their commitment and awareness on SDGs integration to the existing development local planning document through the strategic environmental assessment or Kajian Lingkungan Hidup Strategis (KLHS) and through Local Action Plan on SDGs or Rencana Aksi Daerah Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (RAD TPB).

LOCALISE SDGs will organize various types of national and local trainings on SDGs localisation/KLHS outreach as well as city diplomacy for sustainable development training. The remaining capacity building activities to be carried out in the period of NCE, including 1 national training on SDGs, 18 local trainings and 2 national level training on city diplomacy for sustainable development.
