LOCALIZING HUMAN RIGHTS, GENDER, THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF SDGs IN ASIA PASIFIC
COOPERATION BETWEEN RAOUL WALLENBERG INSTITUTE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND HUMANITARIAN LAW (RWI) AND SDGs CENTER UNILA

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) decide to make collaboration with University of Lampung based on MoU Between between two parties. RWI shall support the project “Development a Handbook on Localizing Human Rights, Gender Equality in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Process in Asia Pasific”, and one of its case studies is in East Lampung.

Agreement RWI and SDGs Center Unila

RWI is an independent academic institutions in 1984 in Lund, Sweden. It coordinates regional programmes in over 40 countries that promote universal respect for the environment and human rights through research, education, and dialogue based on international law. National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), local government, the business community, legal practitioners and environmental policy makers or groups are both focuses and partners for RWI’s programmes.

RWI’s Regional Asia Pasific Programme (RAPP) connects networks and stakeholders at the regional level across the Asia Pacific, those who are influential in achieving the aim of United Nations Agenda 2030 or SDGs RWIs’ activities encourage and facilitate local governments to more easily conceptualise and put into action human rights theory and national SDGs commitments.

The purpose of this MoU is to strengthen the partnership between RWI and SDGs Center of The University of Lampung in Developing a Handbook on Localizing Human Rights, Gender Equality in the SDGs Process in Asia Pasific. The MoU is for the period of October 2020 to 31 December 2021.

Lampung Province is an important place to identify the dynamic of adoption, challenges, and potential of human rights city and SDGs because of some reason. First is the interest to see a different context and political background. Second is the declaration of East Lampung as Human Rights City. Third is a unique and complex society with social and environmental challenges.

RWI organised The 2nd “Blended Learning Course On Local Government and Human Rights(BLC) targeted around twenty participant from fifteen cities in eight countries, including Indonesia, Myanmar, and Nepal in order to achieve the localizations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with human rights by officials of local governments and public organization in Asia. The 2nd BLC under the theme Blended Learning Course (BLC) for Local Governments: Localising Human Rights in the SDGs Process in collaboration UCLG ASPAC with the support of city of Gwangju and the Gwangju International Center, including a virtual city tour. RWI also invited its Indonesia university partners, University of Brawijaya and University of Lampung to participate in The World Human Rights City Forum (WHRCF) event.
